Art Research | Art of The Last of Us

What I picked up most from ths was that I really liked the zombies in it. The specific inspiration for the infection that the monsters suffer from in The Last of Us is something called "Cordyceps fungi," a particularly gross sort of fungus that grows out of insects' heads—seizing control of the bug's motor functions in the process, thereby making it appear as if they've fallen into a crazed, zombie-like state.
I really like the idea of the natural world taking over as it is a really relatable topic, as fungi is something very commonplace it also makes it much more relatable and therefore frightening.

On the note of looking at John Sweene's artwork though, I've godda say I was a bit disappointed at just how much of his work was photo-reliant. He does seem to get work done very quickly though, to a high standard through a fast process which is probably why he gets hired. As someone who is typically a very slow worker, I could probably learn a lot by mixing aspects of his process with my own.
