Charlie Bowater | Painting Inspiration

Charlie Bowater is one of the artists I really love. I love her dreamy painting style, bold colours and expressive faces. My main influences for this project are DA:I, TLOF and Ashley Wood but I'd by lying if I said I never got influences from elsewhere.

I wanted to add in an inspiration page of her art because I think her painting style does influence my own. What I have noticed though, after doing a lot of work on shapes is that her design work isn't actually that strong. I think this may be a reason that I have struggled until this point making really string individual shapes. It could be that the artists I look at mainly paint faces, much like I do and so don't focus much on the clothes. Because I don't look much at art with strong clothing design, it's not something that's obvious to me when designing my own characters. And I do, or I have done so far, focus mainly on the face and expression when I paint, the outfit is more of an afterthought. I am realising now what a big oversight that has been and how much my art could improve if I continue down the path I have just started on.
